Follow the journey of a lost soul, roaming through forested mountains on a hostile blizzard-swept night, in search for meaning.
He finds an olden inscription foreboding a frozen apocalypse, and ways to the path he must take to avoid it. Following its sayings, he opens the gates to a world beautiful beyond his imagination: Subnivium.
As he emerges, he is incarcerated in sylvan form, arising again in the now cold, ravaged, abyssal world as a pine, never to be freed again.
Realising that his thirst for significance have lead him to an eternal, but sessile and meaningless life, he mourns the ephemerality of what life is supposed to be, cursing his longing for eternal consciousness.
Subnivium, the debut album of Staghelm, is as much an elegy to the wonders of nature as it is an introspection into human nature and our place in this world.
